It DOES show the disparity between BST distributions amongst types.
So saying something like 'Poison type sucks' is a fairly baseless statement with more evidence to the contrary if anything. The typing is pretty solid.
'Poison type Pokemon as a whole are less effective in the competitive meta than those of other types' is probably a more accurate statement to say. Sure, you have Mega-Venus and Gengars, but Gamefreak hasn't made a great Poison type since Gen 1 (though many are good, or were made great with later changes like Scolipede). Instead, we have Sevipers, Gulpins, and Garbordors with low stat spreads and poorly realized designs/niches in addition to low stats.
*I love Dragalge as the next fan, but until Adaptability Dragalge is released, it's not very good (and given how Shadow Tag Chandelure, Lighting Rod Zapdos, Contrary Seviper, etc turned out, we can't even assume that it will be released, or that it'll even have Adaptability when it does).
