Guys, I've been playing Pokemon seriously since Ruby/Sapphire. I've play each game two or three times each, and I always post-quest the shit out of one game from each generation. I've had to encounter more then 8000 pokemon. Hell, I wouldn't doubt 10000, 20000, even 30000 pokemon.
I have NEVER, EVER encountered a shiny. Both attempting to and just playing the game. I have shinies from trading and my young'n days with an action replay but I have yet to ever encounter one in 11 years. Am I cursed? Is there hope for me?
