Seriously, what is the point of just creating a "super" version of an existing pokemon? I get that it changes types and stats but I would rather have new pokemon instead of the mega evolution, 80% of which look pretty silly.
It seems like a cop out for game freak. I applaud them for trying to mix up the formula thats existed for nearly 20 years but I feel like overdesigned stat boosts for only a select few makes many other pokemon's existences redundant (like most already are) and isn't really contributing to give the game more depth.
From a meta standpoint, we have seen what something like mega kangaskhan does and it just isn't fun.
It's the same reason people complain about dragon ball GT and even at times dragon ball Z. they try to change the formula which, is of course, a good thing, but it turns into a freak show of one overpowered character after another and turns into a dick measuring contest in the form of energy blasts.
