I can admit to some being less than pleasant than other, but let's face it.
If it weren't for these designs, I don't think the franchise would have lasted this long. First generation pokemon are just that, first generation pokemon. Meaning, the very first pokemon to ever exist, some scrapped to possibly being used later on. Give the designers some slack, they were helping create a franchise that was soon to be big. And they've actually done it, those fucking mad men.
