Lampent's line is based off of Will o Wisps, mythological beings. That alone makes them OK for Pokemon. Mythology/Religions/Folklore has always been important to Pokemon.
If anything, Trubbish and Garbodor actually are more interesting then Grimer/Muk. Instead of Moonray through swampgas origins, they are a result of Human Polution. And as such, are naturally attracted and enjoy being around humans. Humans naturally hate them because they're garbage, but it still shows an interesting concept of humanity creating something we hate. I personally love the line.
And lastly, Vanniluxxe line is not Ice Cream. It is animate snow/ice that resembles Ice Cream. Lore wise, ice cream is probably based off of it. You don't go around bitching how God was uncreative with Goldfish because Goldfish Crackers exist, do you?
Point is, none of the Pokemon introduced yet, including Gen 6, are really breaking the lore and standards set in Gen 1. They're all monsters of sorts, and all can be raised to be deadly, awesome killing machines.
