These lakes are ones in which conditions such as acidity, temperature chemical compossition and other such parameters are completely off the charts nakingthe place completely unlivable for most animals, but perfect for some bizarre creatures that can survive on them.
We could have these beauties be a place were rare, alien pokemon gather. Not only water types, but also all kinds of rare pokemon that could benefit from the conditions, such as grass or steel types thatcould synthesise the chemical components in the water. It would also help making the region very colorful since these things can feasibly be of almost any hue you can think of.
