>>36834780It's definitely the design. I prefer the whole line to have strong designs, but obviously the most important is the Final Stage, because it's the one that will be with you the longest. Having either utmost devotion or complete hatred for an entire type doesn't make sense to me because every typing has its letdowns and its successes.
I believe the only time i ever picked a starter other than the one i liked the most was back in Gold where i found Feraligatr's moveset boring as hell, so i tried out Typhlosion, although admittedly i was 10 years old back then and was already losing some interest in the series. Every other starter (and even most Pokemon that end up in my party) are picked based only their design.
