Gamefreak feels that a game becomes outdated after two handheld console generations, and remakes them according to the system at the time. Red and Blue/Green were for the gameboy, then came the gameboy color, then they were remade on the gameboy advance. Heartgold and soulsilver followed the same formula, but for the 3DS. So it is HIGHLY likely that we will recieve some sort of hoenn game, be it a remake or a new one, a year or two after X and Y
