I mostly take issue with the starter designs. I don't mind Machamp, Hitmonchan, etc. existing. But starters are the one who are with you for the long haul, like a pet in the family. And there's something to be said about the fantasy of owning a pet dragon, for example. It's why Charizard is so popular. That fantasy is much more difficult to capture when starters look and feel more like people in costumes.
