>>47320887Both pokémon animations/models and battle backgrounds are just superficial characteristics that shouldn't be used in an argument about which game is better than the other. Sure, 3D looks good sometimes, and one could argue that it gave justice to many pokémon that couldn't express themselves as mere sprites previously, but if you're willing to use "it looks better :^)" as an argument because you personally like them, then anyone else should be allowed to say the opposite if they don't like them; 3D doesn't automatically makes the game better (other games such as DQ even include an option to change between a 2D environment and a 3D one). I do agree, however, on the better use of the bottom screen on XY, and its better multiplayer and training options. Although I'm personally not a competitive player, I understand why people like some of Gen 6's training mechanics more than previous gens. With player customization it's the same as the models and backgrounds, an interesting feature that doesn't affect main gameplay in a drastic way, so I don't consider it to be something that makes a game automatically better; I'm playing a catchable monsters game, not a dressing one.
