Or who knows, maybe it's a "Junior" type situation, because that kid clearly has another mother that looks exactly like Leon.
There's also the possibility Leon's species is hermaphroditic, and like the Sacculina parasite of crabs, it castrates the host and replaces their eggs with it's own, the host species being none the wiser.
Because clearly Sonia isn't the mother based on how the child looks, maybe she's the godmother.
