The Distortion World is such a unique and iconic place, not including it properly is just awful.
The Battle Frontier made for an almost endless amount of content, and now imagine that content but with modern means to breed Pokémon and with online play to further enrich the different battle modes. Also, you could have the stat trainers (aka the five trainers you meet throughout the game that walk with you) as partners and you could rematch them.
The Villa was a small little bonus feature for the end game and could have been expanded instead of cut.
Platinum added a few story scenes and especially a Cyrus battle and the Platinum story is undoubtedly superior to DP.
The Platinum gym leader teams were overall much better, and so were the updated gym layouts.
Platinum had Looker, one of the most beloved and iconic Pokémon characters ever.
Platinum had TONS of small improvements, like the second Poketch button, added design and decoration elements and updated designs like the post game island actually looking unique and tropical, Team Galactic buildings having a much more distinct design, or the Elite 4 rooms looking more visually interesting, the vs recorder, WiFi Plaza, a proper GTS and so on.
Platinum had a much better regional dex including Pokémon like Rotom, Eevee or Gliscor being available before the E4.
Literally the only piece of content where you could argue that it's not a direct improvement is the change of the order of gyms. Everything else is straight-up an improvement over DP.
They could have included ALL of this in BDSP and still made it essentially a DP remake by putting the Distortion World into a post game episode like they did with Rayquaza in ORAS.
Remaking DP instead of essentially Platinum is a huge waste of potential.
