>>54860398i'm actually of the unpopular opinion that BW are better than BW2, i find them more consistently high quality throughout with a stronger narrative, plus i actually like the way the regional dex makes unova feel so isolated and i think the variety in BW2, while great in isolation, takes away from that a little. i'd be remiss to ignore the things the sequels do better, like route design and region layout, but i think they're more of a mixed bag.
overall i prefer the games with stronger writing which i think we've had a fair few of recently, personally i really like SM and SV as well as PLA and i'm particularly looking forward to seeing more from iwao in the future. the ones where they lean hard on the gimmicks and pandering to sell the story like XY, ORAS, and SWSH however fall pretty flat for me. i really prefer having something tangible to be invested in rather than being told to care about things i don't care about.
