Like, he can't catch the hints and wouldn't think that he's good enough to be flirted with, so if someone is agressive enough with their flirting he'd think that they are making fun of him instead of being interested. This probably has to do from the time he was bullied, since he probably heard a lot of ill willed sarcastic comments and now he struggles to identify genuine ones.
