Everyone does something that is considered childish, or has a "guilty pleasure" of sorts. And for most people that's fine, because most people identify with this. As long as you don't walk around in toy stores to challenge 11 year olds to a battle, it's fine.
If someone makes a big deal out of it, it's probably because YOU YOURSELVES are making a fuzz and they grow tired of it. There is a fine line between telling a girl that you enjoy the games and talking non-stop about IVs and breeding mechanics and lecturing from Smogon.
Also, have you ever been on an opening sale of pokemon games? Everyone standing line is in their late teens or in their 20s.
