Unown could be caught in Gen 2, but only in Crystal. I skipped Gen 2 initially so when I went back to it I was very confused. I think Gen 3 was out at this point but I wouldn't have been up to a point in the games I had where I could catch Unown so while I did know of Unown (my cousin somehow had a card of him, he was the only non Gen 1 card either of us had and we thought it was mysterious as fuck) I still don't know how I even knew those formes existed.
