When i was younger i went to my cousin's house, he lend me his gameboy colour with yellow. He warned me about not overwritting his save file, but i was like 6 and didn't understand what a savefile was, so when i started it up, on the main menu, i didn't knew what to choose so i picked new game randomly, after i gave him back, without thinking he saved and only realised that he lost his adventure after a while.
