Bttles would be top downish and you would control the pokemons' movements with the left analogue and direction with the right. The moves would be mapped the the 4 triggers.
Each move can have an area of effect and duration,
EG: Hydro pump would be a straight attack of one blast for massive damage if you aim it properly, while bubble beam may be a continuous beam that you can hit for some or all of it's duration.
I assume moves would have a slight cooldown period of a few seconds or part of a second depending on the move.
You could use items with the touchpad by dragging them to the pokemon you want to use it on. Drag a pokeball to the wild pokemon to catch it or a potion to your pokemon to heal it.
I think it would be neat.
