Humanoids/anthros and simple shapes are easier to animate, and by default are able to express more and emote in a way that's relatable to little kids. We know GF will always take the easy way out. If they make another feralmon they would actually have to study real world animal movements to make them believable and GF doesn't want to do that often. That's why we have shit like Scorbunny, it's alleged evo, Obstagoon, Alcremie, Grookey and Sobble's alleged evo, etc.
It's all so triring.
