All species of Pokémon have at minimum the same sentience, sapience and capacity for intelligence as humans with some far exceeding humans. But I think people here don't understand that just because that's the case it doesn't necessitate Pokémon having the same priorities, values and goals to humans. Just because a species doesn't behave like, want and do the exact same things as humans, doesn't mean they are second-class citizens.
Pokémon have some aspects to them that are like real-life animals but also some that make them different. Pokémon are Pokémon and they want to be treated like Pokémon.
Trained Pokémon are more closer to humans but still obviously not the same. Wild Pokémon behave and live more like real-life wild animals but still not exactly the same. Wild Pokémon are split into two groups, those that seek humans to be their Trainer and those that don't. The latter group of Wild Pokémon are the ones usually doing the kinds of morally bad things that the Pokédex describes Pokémon doing.
