I just beat the E4/Champion. The "brokenness" of the games are grossly exaggerated. I had zero crashes, softlocks or general gamebreaking issues. The framerate and pop-in are the only really egregious issues but they definitely don't detract from the fun factor.
From a raw core gameplay, atmosphere, music, and features/QoL standpoint, these are some of the best pokemon games ever, but you'll appreciate them a lot more of you have a good friend to grind 5+ star raids with. Someone who actually knows what they're doing.
I haven't enjoyed a Pokemon game this much since Sun/Moon (remakes/spinoffs included). A few thousand Metacritic review-bombers are not indicative of how much people are actually enjoying the games.
