It had its cute moments, it had the spaghetti, it had the nice lighting and scenery, it hyped Serena's goal (she got gear for her Pokemon, the dress from her mom, and the ribbon (?) from Ash), it had that nice Rocket moment near the end with their Pokemon, and it had that great scene with the game giving their Pokemon presents.
But if you expected anything more with the "date", then yeah it's underwhelming. And I'll admit I fall into this category. From the day that episode title was released, to the few screenshots we got, to the lack of info on what was gonna happen, yeah I was hype. Even if you didn't like the shipping stuff, there was the prospect of some status quo breaking. I only have myself to blame for hyping it, but it was fun dammit. I wasn't totally delusional though (in that I didn't expect anything outlandish like a kiss or something similar) but there weren't any surprises. Maybe I wanted more cutesy stuff to happen between Ash and Serena, or character development (like in the cliff scene), but yeah... Asking for much.
Tl;dr - Good ep. It was fun, but no surprises
As a side note, people attacking amourfags for hype gotta lay off. And amourfags playing the "Well I wasn't hyped at all" card in defense gotta get real. Let's ignore the arguing and enjoy the show, bros and bras.
