This unironically isn't even a good argument since no trainer in the entire history of Pokemon games uses a team with a competitive move set before you beat the Champion.
I don't even think I can remember a single NPC trainer in the games that has held items on all their Pokemon.
Is it really that hard to comprehend that some people want a challenging experience when playing through a game for the first time?
I don't want to be able to breeze through a Pokemon game with a team of 0 IV shitmons.
Maybe on the default difficulty that should be possible, but I want stuff like the Elite 4 to actually be a fucking challenge.
Why is it that your final rival battle in most, if not all games, has a team of 6 Pokemon, but the Elite 4 only have 4-5?
I guarantee that over 90% of games that have released this year have some kind of difficulty setting for their core gameplay.
Yet the highest grossing, most ludicrous franchise in history did it once and never again because the majority of players never used it.
Another example of GF choosing to cut a feature over making some fans happy, because it doesn't make them money. Absolutely soulless and lazy.
