For the most part, there are two types of people on 4chan. There's people who genuinely love their board's subject matter to the point where they can nitpick even the smallest minutiae, making it look like they hate it. And there's people who don't understand this and just spout nonsense, thinking it's all a big game where the goal is to fling as much shit as possible.
A new board always starts off with mostly the first group and it sparks a lot of oc and good times. But the longer it goes on, the second group corrodes it and makes it uninhabitable for the first group. And then you're left with a stagnant board full of loosely themed shitposting where there's no chance for anything good to ever happen anymore.
