I think that the dress up portion of Contests is actually a much "smarter" inclusion because the player character also puts on a Contest Costume. So, it makes sense for their Pokemon to do the same.
What you are saying with these statements is that your subjective opinion is objectively correct and is the "right" way to do things. This is flawed logic.
