>>40487976>>40488349I'll share another, just for the hell of it. This thread has made me scrounge up nostalgia for the first time in years.
My first mainline game was Diamond, and I got that when I was... god, I dunno, young. But I eventually got Pearl (and a second DS Lite; my first one still worked but it didn't have sound), so I'd trade stuff to myself and repeatedly steal Pearl's flag in the Underground to make Diamond's rank go up.
Back then, my mom worked late a lot so I was always at my grandparents', and I'd usually shut myself up in my room to watch cartoons because all my grandma liked to watch was Fox News and shopping channels. But occasionally, I'd come out and socialize with them.
On one of those occasions, it was just me and my grandpa (I think my grandma was still asleep). I was bugging him, and I eventually got him to play Pokemon with me. We did the Underground, and I kept trying to steal his flag. He had no idea what was going on because kids are shit at explaining things to old people, but he got the gist of it, and he chased me around the Underground. It was really fun, and I fondly remember laughing with him about it.
Now, my grandma has been dead for almost 10 years, and that half of the family in general has gone balls-to-the-wall insane, so my grandpa doesn't have much going for him anymore. Since I go to uni 4 hours away, I can't keep him company either, and it's super depressing to see him just... waste away by himself. But the one time I was able to visit recently, he told me that he remembered playing those games with me back when I was little. He was like "I didn't know anything, so you'd always beat me, but it was fun just spending time with you."
I wish I could go back and do more with both of my grandparents, but dumb kids don't know what they have until it's gone, I guess.
...Jeez, just remembering everything and typing it out has got me crying. I should give my grandpa a call.
