It has what I'd consider a better story, more extra side-stories to play alongside the main quests, and doesn't bloat the main dungeons with 99 floor dungeons as much as Red/Blue Rescue Team. It also has bigger inventory and expands upon all the items you can come across, like fake items and type/species-based items that you only need to have in your backpack to get the bonuses for.
The only thing Red/Blue Rescue Team has over D/T/S is a different story that you should experience first, better replayability, and friend areas.

Why won't they bring Friend Areas back this hurts me so much.
btw I love the first games of this series so much but I'm willing to admit the sequels are at the VERY LEAST on-par with the first games.
