For me, it's a game containing the 3 most kino regions, Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn, plus contests, battle domes, safari zone featuring Pokes from generations 4, 5, and 6, the Pokeathalon, the arcade with Voltorb Flip + slot machines, vs seeker/Match Caller, Poketch, allow trade-evolutions to evolve naturally instead, the Battle Frontier, and the Sevii Islands.
Have 3 E4s, 3 regions worth of gym leaders who can be re-challenged and will eventually scale to level 100 with competitive teams, and 3 different, compelling storylines unique to each region, along with a few "side quests" that offer unique shit.
Also, allow your character to "romance" another character by going on outings with them and double-battling with them.
