It's partly because those are the seasons of the anime I grew up watching, but also because they have my favorite games.
RSE, Colosseum, DPPt, I never actually played a pokemon game until I was a teen, so there isn't really any nostalgia about the games for me. They're just my personal favorites.
I actually really enjoy the water areas of Hoenn, I love the ocean anyway, but exploring the maze of dive spots is really fun. It's the sorta thing I really wish was expanded upon.
