I prefer using Pokemon I'm not as keen on in order to appreciate them more instead of just sticking to the things I like. The fact that it was created as a result of artist's block is honestly a positive in my eyes as we got something inspired (by the experience of the designer visiting the sea lions) and whimsical - a charming concept that would never have come around if they stuck to simple progression.
Maybe I'm just biased towards unconventional designs but Samurott is, for me, the epitome of a fantasy design in a series of fantasy creatures.
