If you can get a solid rating on an alt or something (let's say 1500-1600) in OU you're probably ready to battle for showderp. You'll want to have knowledge of the metagame and know viable sets for a lot of pokes to be able to do well. Tl;dr you sucked don't battle until you practice
And for the people who wanted me to battle sorry but I gotta go, I'll be able to battle on Friday night because most of my day is taken up by Uni/social life/etc during the week
