Gonna throw down my two cents:
I don't understand why Fairy is the one type where everyone INSISTS it only gets associated with things that are fairies or fae-like in lore. Why is Fairy the only type that we can't just slap onto something for the fun of it? I mean, is there any folktale or mythological figure that justifies Cyndaquil being a Fire-type? You can argue that the fire erupting from its back is meant to resemble porcupine quills, which is justified, but it doesn't even bear fire idly, and you could pull the same concept off with most other types. What about either form of Exeggutor? Is there any reason why it needed to be Psychic? Does Alolan Exeggutor have dragons in its root concept outside of puns? Did some ancient culture interpet bulls or sheep as stones or gems of some kind to explain why Terrakion is a rock?
I haven't seen anyone say stuff like this with any other type, not even Ghost or Dragon. Why's Fairy the only one getting blasted? Is it because the fanbase doesn't want a pink, girly, sparkly type? That's all you have to say, you don't need to justify your distaste for the type by throwing down " there's no lore behind these Pokémon being fairies! ", when that argument can be applied to literally any other type, you're allowed to just not like something because you simply don't like it.
Speaking of which, why do we need all Fairy-type Pokémon to be based on some kind of myth or character from folklore? This is the magical fantasy world of Pokémon where anything can be anything. If Alolan Raichu can be Psychic for no apparent reason, I don't see why another rat can't be Fairy. The Pokémon world has its own mythology and interpretations; not everything needs to be based on real life culture, we can create our own in our fictional worlds.
If anyone bothered to read this, thank you. I'm happy to answer questions and other arguments.
tl;dr: heho fairy go brrrr
