What happened is that Ecommerce has already been causing people to become more capitalistic for years at this point, and the pandemic was just the straw that broke the camel's back. We're seeing the fall of traditional conventions like MSRP and budgeting, with ceilings on product prices disappearing and less people budgeting because a) people are increasingly looking at consumer products as investments and would rather hold them than cash, b) not owning lots of expensive things is frowned upon on social media, and c) individual sellers on platforms like eBay and Whatnot don't give a fuck about MSRP. Same thing is happening with video games.
