>>56299323 was naming them after moves that they get in later gens to contrast how limited movepools can sometimes be in gen 2. For at least this Ruby run, I thought about contrasting competitive gen 3 (which is considered to be the best competitive generation some) with competitive gen 9. So I look up how they're used then (Mightyena in gen 3 is actually a bulky-ish support mon in the lower tiers with heal bell that uses it's special attack) and try to find a gen 4-9 mon that mimmicks their role currently, which Sylveon as a bulky special attacking pokemon that also utilizes heal bell does the best job of (my particular mightyena not being able to do that role in the nuzlocke is irrelevant). That's why torchic is named after a mixed attacker that can utilise speed boost to clean games, why I have four zigzagoons named after extreme speed users, and so on. Not sure I'll continue it for saphirre as unless I get Zygarde (Linoone) to e4, I'll definitely run out of extreme speed users to name them after.
