>>51299448The Legend of Mana remaster on Switch is a pretty good example of this principal. The art done for the parallax backgrounds in the original and in the remaster was actually the same. On PS1, the art was scrunched down to the point of looking like mostly pixels (it jelled really well with the sprites in the game), but they used the original HQ version of the art for the backgrounds on the remaster and it looked gorgeous. Their sprites are still sprites, though. So it gives a good idea of how different the original PS1 version actually looked. Future proofing assets is industry standard, I'm just saying.
Also, yes, for that second part. If you're going to shrink something down, but you still want lines on it to show up you need to make the lines thicker. That's a basic rule of art. If the lines were thin and you shrunk it down, they'd disappear. Unless you mean the outlines around the Pokemon for some reason? Because those are totally part of the shader if so.
