>>54183966>>54184085>While Gamefreak is know to cut corners and be an overall important development studio compared to something like HAL, you can damn well argue that with every generation up to 6 (or 7) they were trying damn hard to upgrade the visuals and performance of each mainline game. The jump from sprites to 3D models in X&Y was universally praised by literally everyone (even if said models weren't made by GF themselves). The fact the the models continued to inprove in both overworld and characters in Sun&Moon showed that the franchise was most definitely improving. This all plato'd once Sword & Shirld dropped, where hilariously low res texturing on the overworld made the game look like a joke compared to any other high profit Switch Game. It's even worse in Scarlet Violet.
>Although Pokemon games are rarely renouned for their difficulty, it's undoubtable that Gens 1 - 5 really were more difficult compared to what we have today. You may say, 'Every Pokemon game is easy! Just pick the right type for each opponent and you win!' That's correct, 100%. But at least in older games you could've overlevel your whole team 10 to 15 level above the intended difficultly. Today's EXP Share is so geared toward casual audiences that the fact you can't turn it off ruins any sense of difficulty beyond the odd challenge run.
>Even though 90% of player don't care for it, postgame challenges were a real joy for hardcore Pokemon players. The Battle Frontier is because of the unique situations and gameplay changes it added, allowing for the game's depth and complexity to truly shine."But we have the Battle Tower/Tree!" Glad that it's there, but they're still nothing compared to the Frontier. It's dosen't help that the Battle Tower gets WORSE in every generation. Sun & Moon removed Triple and Rotation battles because GF can't optimize for shit, and Sword & Shield's only let's you battle 10 or so times before booting you out, removing the joy of getting high score.
