I have a teambuilding challenge I like to try every now and then where I do something like picrel (not a serious team, just an example). Here's the rules:
>typical Nuzlocke rules, however
>instead of one encounter per route, you can catch as many unique dual-type Pokemon (or monotypes that evolve into dual-types, they're treated as such) as you like so you can teambuild
>If a 'mon dies, it's permaboxed or released, but you can catch and use an earlier stage of its evo line as long as it's dual-type
>Every Gym + E4 has to be done with a team like picrel where each Pokemon in a party slot shares a unique type with the 'mon next to it. Can't repeat types this way, so you can't do, for example, Charizard, Butterfree, Parasect, Jumpluff, because that would be a 3rd Flying type
Did this successfully for the first time in Pearl on hardware. After studying different Gens, here's the general stinkers for this challenge:
>Gen 1 is "possible" as referenced by picrel, but I don't know how feasible it is with things like Normal type being unusable unless it's slot 1 or 6 and repeated type combos among different lines like Grass/Poison and Ground/Rock
>Gen 2 suffers similar problems (mostly because a lot of the new Johtomons are in Kanto), but the start is even harder as all the starters are monotype, so now you likely have to postpone the challenge until you have enough species available to form a proper team
>BW is like Gen 2 where the early game suffers. You have 1 starter to choose in Tepig and the early game type diversity just isn't there to even match Fire or Fighting unless you get the event Victini, so the first Gym is just impossible with the rules, and the 2nd Gym can only be done with a two-Pokemon team of Tranquil and Woobat iirc, so you basically have to wait until the 3rd Gym to have fun
Anyways I want to do another run of this, any game suggestions? Official or romhacks, idc
