>>48967152It definitely would've been better to have more Ghost and Ice types in Hoenn, but even then, Diamond (not Pearl or Platinum) somehow still manages to be slightly worse than RSE for ghost types before the postgame. Pearl is a little better since you could get Mismagius (at the cost of Honchkrow, unfortunately), but Diamond only had Gengar, Spritomb and Drifblim until the postgame, since Rotom was postgame only until Platinum. The ghost-type final evolutions in Sinnoh are also harder to obtain since you need to trade with someone else (Gengar), talk to an absurd number of people in the underground (Spiritomb), or play on a certain day at Valley Windworks (to catch Drifloon). Out of the Hoenn ones, Shedinja is a gimmick shitmon and I could see why people would find it hard to obtain, since internet access wasn't very common and you wouldn't intuitively know to leave a spot on your team when Nincada evolves. It's more Drifloon-tier difficulty than Spiritomb-tier difficulty though. Gen I and II didn't have many Ghost types either. Gen I only had Gengar and Gen II only had Gengar and Misdreavus, with Misdreavus being postgame only. It makes sense for Johto to not have many Ghost types, since it doesn't really have any "spooky" locales like Pokemon Tower in Kanto, Mt. Pyre in Hoenn, or Old Chateau/Lost Tower in Sinnoh. The Ice-type problem is genuinely much worse in DP because there are so many snow-routes whereas RSE only has Shoal Cave as its equivalent. The Ice Path in Crystal has more Ice-types than the DP snow routes and Shoal Cave in RSE has the same amount. Comparsion of Ruby and Diamond regional dex availability:
