>>32547839I think a lot of the fairies and dragons can come off that way, because fairies and dragons are fictional anyway, so GF has more license to pull something out of their ass. Even when they do something really weird at first glance like Mareanie or Turtonator, you can do a little research and find out that they're actually based on very obscure but real animals. Which don't get me wrong, I love that, and it's one of my favorite things about the series, but there's also something beautiful about the vague yet iconic simplicity of something like Snorlax, for example. Is it a bear? A cat? Maybe based on bridge trolls, even? The only answer for that is that it's its own original creature, a Snorlax.
Snorlax also fits in with this thread, too. He's great.
