Why must my overconfidence get the better of me?
Went up through to Oreburgh, failing to catch both a female Abra on Route 205 and a Psyduck in Oreburgh Cave, the latter escaping my last Pokeball after it wobbled thrice. Dick move. Snagged Malasada the Ponyta on Route 207, a noted evening catch at the time, and rounded out the team with Almond the Geodude. I ground for Roark, and Cayenne evolved while doing so.
Knowing that Cayenne was the only 'Mon in my party who was effective against Roark's team - the other option was training Geodude up another two levels at the time and teaching him Magnitude and I thought Monferno was good enough - I went through with Cayenne at the head of the party, and he was level 16 by the time Cranidos appeared, having taken only light damage from a Rock Throw. His Onix had, however, gotten off a Screech, and I pondered this - I was tempted to switch into Almond to take negligible damage from Stealth Rock and to reverse the stat drops, but I was also aware that defense was hardly Cranidos' strong suit, and with a two level disparity in my favor, I believed that a single Mach Punch would do the trick. I went with my gut, and watched the health bar tick down...but he survived with a sliver of health remaining. And with that, another Adamant starter was claimed by a Screech/Headbutt set-up, and my overconfidence once more got the better of me...and I lost my first buddy as a result.
He deserved better. Much better...stupid way to die.
Since then, however, I have been much more careful. There've been no deaths on the lead-up to Eterna, and luck smiled on me at Floaroma, for I got a Cherubi! Not the best nature for her right now, but a speed-boosting nature as Cherrim is pretty alright. Timid for the Buneary I picked up in Eterna is pretty neat as well, and Jello the Shellos is Mild. May experiment with him.
Gardenia should be easy enough with my current set-up, but as with last time, when Fatina rolls around...it may well hurt.
