>>57630749All "constructed" TCG formats are strictly and solely about playing meta or about playing anti-meta. Or, playing meta, with an anti-meta sideboard or anti-meta tech at the sacrifice of a couple lower-functioning meta cards. This game does not have a sideboard and is decided almost solely by coinflips and RNG, and since there are only 20 cards in a deck, and because running any Pokemon in your deck at all (which you must do) takes up 6, 4, or 2 slots in your 20 card deck, and because there is a suite of "literally must include" cards like 2 Pokeball, 2 Oak, Sabrinas and/or Cyrus, etc...
...you just play meta. That's your option. There is no "gitting gud". You play meta. If you are feeling really fancy, you can play meta and then take out like 1 or 2 cards to put in a different 1 or 2 cards based on your personal experience playing the deck and determining what you think it needs and what you think it doesn't need, but the bottom line is your only option is to play meta. 5 winstreak? meta. 45 wins? meta. Ranked? Definitely meta.
The other option is to just play your favorite Pokemon and to hope that RNG smiles upon you.
