Caterpie would fit into the Normal type as easily as Rattata does. Just focus on their characteristics, and typings other than Bug come easily, especially when only 21 Bug types out of 84 are mono typed. Shift the mono types over to Normal, and take Bug out of the dual types and the retyping work is done save for the ones where dual typings can still work by adding in other types. When you see which Bug types out of all of them that would end likely up as mono Normal, it doesn't feel all that empty of a reality.
