Without its story, Mimikyu is a mimic, and its design is good enough to give that away on its own. You look at Mimikyu and all you see is Pikachu, I see a monster trying to look as nonthreatening as possible by co-opting another creature's appearance.
It's classic mimicry as seen in nature, but given an artificial (and meta) twist, and all of that is visible from its design alone. "Rehash" is the wrong word entirely.
