It forced you to experiment with new mons and find their niches instead of just relying on the old ones all the time.
I even found some that I really, really like.
Too bad a lot of people didn't like idea of not being able to use old mons apparently.
You could still transfer them.
It's not like now where some mons aren't even coded into the game.
