I see some people claiming that it's fair for you to level up to the same level as a gym leader's highest Pokemon or whatever, completely ignoring the fact that in a lot of cases that's impossible during regular play without grinding and the battles are clearly designed with a Pokemon that overlevels you in mind, so it ends up being a faultly self-imposed level cap that removes the intended challenge from battles.
