>>46130668people who treats the pokemon games like it's some life-or-death serious business instead of a cutesy exploration bugs me more than it should. but people really seek out that sort of challenge, which in of itself is not a bad thing, but i think it limits creative thinking in how to win a battle. that's my main problem with Radical Red - i admire the creator for putting effort into making his romhack and he does make it clear that it's not aimed at casual players, but he is really condescending towards anyone who gets filtered. there are more than 2-3 ways to play Pokemon, especially so when your options are limited. and even though he has said it's not for casuals, the difficulty spike right from the get go is retarded. if i wanted to play Pokemon in a competitive sense, i'd build my team in 30-40 mins in Showdown than spend 2-3 days perfecting the IVs, EVs and moves of 6 different mons. at least Clover actually manages to balance out its difficulty better, encourages the player to do whatever they want and is actually tongue-in-cheek so it doesn't get too frustrating.
and not related to difficulty, but Radred's "attempts" at humor are really unfunny. it's nothing but "haha we're quirky weirdos XD" or "haha we're ironic weebs XD", low hanging fruit jokes. same goes for it's insufferable discord server
