>>36445758it just really pisses me off that GF employs amazing artistic talent and almost all of them would have grown up doing and admiring gorgeous spritework like this, yet for Gen 3 onwards they've clearly been told to switch off their brains and stick to the rigidly defined model rather than being able to take expressive and dynamic liberty. it makes me sad that this talent is not put to good use
it does make sense for marketing though because making the pokemon essentially look like stiff dolls is what you'll get when you watch the anime or buy a plushie, it's standardising the look of each pokemon for when it's replicated elsewhere in the franchise.
