My parents didn't let me watch The Simpsons or Bevis and Butthead and pokemon was out of the question as well.
I think a lot of churches equated it to "the devil" because;
1. Its not an American form of entertainment.
2. They don't understand it.
3. Psychics and ghosts are involved (which usually has demonic references to the christian faith).
4. There was an almost eerie cult following of the game during the Gen I Gen II era.
5. Then there was a news story of one kid killing another over the TCG so that didn't help either.
fortunate for me I was still able to play the games. My parents were smart enough to look through my room while at was at school (yes they were nosey fuckers) AND looked through my backpack when I came home from school, so I kept my pokemon games at my friends house. His parents were cool with the games.
My parents basically equated pokemon to Ouiji boards and Tarot cards, and the obsession people had over the game was apparently a "demonic possession"
....so.....yeah, thats my story. My parents aren't that bad anymore, but still.....its probably why i'm an Atheist/Deist today (just to spite them)
