Okay there is a lot of misinformation going around about this issue, and there is a feedback loop where misinformation breeds more misinformation. People looking to be mad about something that simply isn't worth getting mad about.
What this lawsuit is NOT about: Going after random people who uploaded the game, datamined the game, or exposed issues with the game pre-release.
What this lawsuit IS about: Locating contractors who may have worked on a strategy guide, who may have signed NDAs, who may have breached those NDAs, and preventing them from leaking any additional secrets they might have.
Basically this is a trade secrets action intended to launch an investigation to locate against possible contractors who may have broken NDAs. "Damages" is the term for what you get when someone breaches a contract. There doesn't have to be literal damage, the damage is the breach. The default remedy for damages is money, either the cost of replacing what you lost or the difference between what you got and what you would have had if the contract had been fully performed.
"Irreparable damages" means that money can't repair the breach, either because it's impossible to calculate the loss or because it's not something money can fix.
An injunction is when the court makes someone do something or prevents them from doing something. If you actually go and read the complaint (
https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/6559817-Pokemon-Is-Suing-Unknown-Discord-Sword-and.html), you'll see that this is part of what TPCi wants. They want the court to order the contractors not to give out any other information they might have about TPCi's products. They also want money damages, to be determined later.
Why is TPCi doing this? To protect the enforceability and strength of their NDAs going forward. Basically it's a signal to all their other partners not to breach their agreements.
