if i dont have any ideas i pick something random like an animal i like or a random concept like a lightbulb, then just make something simple
in these threads someone was designing a grass type octopus pokemon, and it made me think of tree roots looking like octopus tentacles so i did a doodle of a tree with tentacles and a cute face; this is my first draft idea and it looks bad because what i would do from here is refine it, simplify it, and improve it
i base my designs on existing pokemon, or other designs from other games and properties that i like because i dont care about making everything look like a pokemon
